ASUS MyPal A636 Review

This article review of the ASUS MyPal A636. This is a PDA phone and GPS in one, and runs Windows Pocket. There are other similar products, but for the price and features, you can not go wrong. This unit is already some time ago, and the A639 has been recently published which replaces the A636 series. The 839 is much more expensive (and has some better features), but the A636 is a real value for money.

The main differences between the A636 andthe A636 is that the A636 only 11M wireless and Bluetooth 1.1. In addition, the A636 allows the USB port of a PC loaded, while the smaller A636 does not. Unfortunately, both have a USB 1.1 interface. USB 2.0 was introduced in the A639.

For GPS navigation, I use the TomTom software. You can use the A636 as a package with the CoPilot GPS software is used for the purchase, but everything I read made me believe that TomTom betetr. It works well on this unit. Especially since I can runDisplay the side of the A636 for a better representation of maps / routes. From what I read was around the network, the GPS chip SiRF StarIII (the A636) is a must, as is apparent in the satellites faster than other chips and better locks. Have not had a problem yet. The GPS antenna is on a swivel chair that folds neatly fit behind the unit when not in use.

The other important consideration when buying a PDA with a removable battery - Asus has taken the '. If theBattery fails, then all I need to do, they need replacement, not all of the device to send away for repair. I'm not sure what the battery life, as I still had my flat. This is because when I get in the car with the help of GPS Clock, the A636 is loaded simultaneously. I do not run for a bit 'and I realized at the cost, power consumption is very significant.

So far to go from the PDA of things they do as all other similarly equipped PDA. Windows Mobile Pocket is perfect, andConnectivity to other devices via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is simple. Installing applications is the USB port of a PC with Microsoft ActiveSync.

Windows Mobile Pocket PC functions like a "real" running Windows with Microsoft Word, Excel by default. There's also a File Explorer, Control Panel, Internet Explorer when you connect your PDA to the Internet via the Bluetooth wireless function or name. So if you've used Windows before, this will not be too difficult.

The onlywhich is a little 'getting used to the pen is responsible for input, but there are several procedures for the entry of a pseudo-played keyboard on the screen (where you select the letter), a mode where you can typist like you usually write with a pen. The Asus is very good to interpret your writing "style".

What really impressed me is that with the A636, with all necessary cables adapters come - including the suction cup (and charger) for your car when you use theGPS. How good a case for the anointed was contained. The only additional purchase I had to do was a decent size SD memory card to store all my data. The Asus comes with a 64MB card. Memory cards come in a set price over the last few years, so that additional cost was not bad for the wallet.

Overall, I think the Asus A636 is a great product for a low price. Equipped with features, really do not know what I prefer in PDS / GPS combo -USB 2.0. And 'certainly a step forward from my old Palm Pilot screen.
